French Earl Grey
Superior quality 100% pure Ceylon Tea Natural Ingredients Free from artificial additives
French Earl Grey tea is the fruiter, floral cousin of classic Earl Grey — bergamot on Ceylon black tea, with passionfruit, soursop, and marigold, cornflower and rose petals. This blend is BOP1 from Kandy, Sri Lanka. Steep at 95°C for three to five minutes; drink black or iced. For bergamot only, see our Ceylon Earl Grey tea. Loose leaf from 70 g and 100 g, plus pyramid bags and a gift tin.
How to brew French Earl Grey
Kandy BOP1 Ceylon black tea with bergamot, tropical fruit, and flower petals brews into a bright amber cup with lifted citrus and florals. Water just off the boil and three to five minutes are enough.
Light-bodied and smooth — bergamot softened by passionfruit and petals. Steep about 3 minutes for a brighter cup, or up to 5 for more body; avoid over-steeping so the fruit stays fresh. Best plain or over ice on a warm day. A little honey suits the fruit; skip heavy milk so the florals stay clear.

Where It's Grown
Kandy is where Ceylon tea began: in 1867 James Taylor planted the island's first commercial tea fields at Loolecondera, near the old royal capital. At mid-elevations of 600 to 1,200 metres, the milder climate encourages generous leaf growth, giving teas of real depth with a warm, coppery glow and a satisfying, rounded strength.
Our French Earl Grey (BOP1 grade) brings this character to the cup: fruity and floral.
Rain from the southwest monsoon between May and September keeps Kandy's hills green and productive. The drier, brighter weather of January to April brings the season's finest teas, with extra clarity and character in the cup.
What is French Earl Grey tea?
French Earl Grey tea starts like classic Earl Grey — black tea scented with bergamot — then adds fruit and flowers for a softer, more decorative cup. Many tea shops use passionfruit, soursop, or similar tropical notes plus marigold, cornflower, or rose petals. It is a blend style, not a single-estate grade.
Shoppers search for french earl grey and french earl grey tea (or “French Earl Gray”) when they want that fruit-and-floral recipe, not the plain bergamot cup. This page is TEA TOP’s Ceylon version from Kandy.

Taste profile and strength
Expect bright amber liquor, lifted citrus from bergamot, and a smooth, light body. Passionfruit and soursop add tropical sweetness; petals add colour and a gentle floral finish. It is more aromatic than a breakfast tea and softer than plain Earl Grey.
Steep at 95°C. Drink black, chill over ice, or sweeten lightly with honey — heavy milk can flatten the florals.
Caffeine in French Earl Grey tea
We have not published a lab assay for this lot, so treat milligram figures as a typical range, not a promise. Ceylon black tea brewed as we recommend (2 g / 200 ml, 3–5 minutes, 95 °C) usually falls around 40–70 mg of caffeine per cup. This is not decaffeinated French Earl Grey.
How this French Earl Grey compares
Ceylon Earl Grey is Uva FBOP with bergamot and cornflower — the classic citrus cup. This French style adds fruit and more petals on Kandy BOP1.
Organic Earl Grey is bergamot on certified Idalgashinna leaf without the fruit blend. Cream Earl Grey (vanilla) and Lady Grey (extra citrus) are different recipes we do not sell.
Many “French Earl Grey” teas in shops follow a similar fruit-and-petal idea; this is TEA TOP’s Ceylon recipe, packed for Australia.
Best ways to enjoy

“Fruity and floral”
More floral than standard Earl Grey, really elegant. The longer leaf looks beautiful and tastes refined.
“Treat yourself tea”
Fruity bergamot with a soft floral lift. Feels special without being fussy. Gifted a tin already.
“Lovely BOP1 grade”
Nice wiry, twisted long leaves, fragrant cup. Slightly lighter than Royale but I like that for afternoon.
